Celebrating Places that Matter

Continuing our celebration of the National “Preservation Month” we urge you to reflect on historic preservation by recognizing the diverse and unique heritage of our country’s historic places, and, their stories, traditions, and legacies.

Today, we are delighted to highlight the former Mary Leila Cotton Mill, which was transformed into Mary Leila Lofts in 2017, an affordable, green, loft apartment community in Greensboro, Georgia. The historic integrity of the old mill and the beautiful original architectural features of the past such as high ceilings and old brass fittings were well preserved.

The project team also saved features like wood flooring, while incorporating
state-of-the-art technology, including solar panels, which provide energy needs to common lounge areas and gym facilities, as well as installing new eco-friendly windows, all illustrating that preservation can be achieved through intentional and sustainable design.

The 71 loft apartments have one, two, and three bedroom apartments each with a distinctive look. Additional amenities include a club style gathering room, a state of the art exercise room, outdoor swimming pool, wine cellar, and sculpture garden courtyard.

As we spread the word about National Historic Preservation Month, celebrate the places you love by sharing your photos at #thisplacematters.
