Kansas City, MO: We are pleased to announce that our Vice President, Dave Hendrikse, has been honored with the 2024 Wish Champion – Outstanding Volunteer/Supporter award by Make-a-Wish Missouri & Kansas. This prestigious recognition was presented at the Annual Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas Recognition Event Celebration.
Dave’s dedication and compassion have played a pivotal role in granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses in Kansas City. By connecting Make-a-Wish’s local chapter with engineers, contractors, electricians, and more, Dave ensures each wish reflects the child’s unique vision. Dave has already successfully fulfilled several wishes, including a custom treehouse, playhouse, hot tub, and others.
A Heartwarming Wish Fulfilled
A touching wish granted this winter was for Hank, a 6-year-old boy with a genetic disorder that affects his movement and communication. Hank’s love for water and its therapeutic benefits led his family to wish for a hot tub. Understanding the profound impact this could have on Hank’s quality of life, Dave collaborated with Monarch Construction. This partnership ensured every detail—from concrete work and fencing to electrical setup, hot tub installation, and a handicap lift—was meticulously handled, making Hank’s dream a reality. This was the sixth wish that Dave has helped make come true for the Make-A-Wish program.
Current Wish in Progress: Owen’s Indoor Jungle Gym
Dave is currently channeling his efforts into making another dream come true for Owen, a courageous 6-year-old who is battling cancer. During a wish visit, Owen expressed his love for playing, jumping, rope swinging, ball pits, and chicken nuggets! His heartfelt wish was for an indoor jungle gym, allowing him to play and be active all year round. Dave is working closely with Ronco Construction to design and build a custom jungle gym in Owen’s basement, promising endless joy and adventure for this brave little boy.
A Humble Acknowledgment
While Dave is deeply honored to receive the 2024 Wish Champion – Outstanding Volunteer/Supporter award, he expressed that this recognition is a collective achievement. He extends his gratitude to every volunteer who responded with an eager “when and where,” to every contractor who enthusiastically asked, “how can I help,” and to every supplier and donor who inquired, “what do you need and where do I send it.” Dave believes these selfless individuals and organizations are the true heroes behind each wish granted.
A Community of Compassion
The Make-A-Wish Foundation aims to bring joy and hope to children with critical illnesses by granting their most cherished wishes. This mission is made possible by the tireless efforts of volunteers, supporters, and partners who come together to make each wish a reality. Dave Hendrikse exemplifies this spirit of giving and collaboration, and we are incredibly proud to have him as part of our Rosemann team.
